1996 Volvo turnover problems after water pump and timing bel

Post by shevolvo45 »

My car will start for a few days and then will start some days and then will start ect....I leave it parked cause I don't know when it will decide to start or not....had to have it towed one time....but then it started 3 days later....as though it has to take a rest or something.....it rotated and sounds like it wants to catch but something is stopping it....some times it coughs after it catches before it come to a steady idle.....that's when I know it may not the engine may not catch the next time I go to start it.....before this I had a problem with it shutting off when coming to stops, stalling while driving, and erratic idling....had the obd2 read and gave me airflow mass error....replace MAF and no more of those problems.....until I had the water pump and timing belt replaced......now the problem with engine turning over and/or not turning over....but the obd2 reading is not showing anything....except for the air pump of which was discovered 1 year after I bought the car when going for my own first inspection 6 years ago....which means it was sold to me that way.....other problems I had after buying the car 6 years ago was the upper and lower radiator hoses busting....as well as the overflow tank cracking at least 4 times over 5 years.....no one could tell me why....have to use a special tool to read the obd because that never worked from the time I bought the car....but also found that out during the first inspection.....also after getting the water pump and timing belt changed...two of the fuses would not read.....which were read prior by the same mechanic....but he doesn't know why...I know that one of the fuses is the last number on the right of the fuse box.....could any of these things have to do with my engine turnover problems?...or can anyone tell me what does.....I also need a lower right motor mount.....it really bad.....can that be a cause

Hi and welcome to the forum.

If your mechanic can not figure it out, find one that works on Volvo's a lot.

Hi...Thanks for the welcome...and for the reply....I've been coming to this site for a long time....and have found the post and replies to be really helpful....and feel that I'm in good company of true Volvo lovers.....Would also like to know does any have any idea about the labor cost to repair pcv system....also need to correct that as well as lower passenger site engine mount....even though the car starts sometimes...I will not drive it.....finding it hard to find a mechanic who's enthusiastic about dealing with these issues or familiar enough with the inner workings Volvo
