1997 850 Trying to fix P0442, small evap leak

I've been getting a P0442 periodically from my 97 850 wagon (base, no turbo). I've replaced the gas cap, the electrical part of the ignition switch, and all the deteriorated rubber vacuum-hose couplings I can find under the hood, but I'm still getting the code. I want to inspect the hose couplings at the evap canister, but there doesn't appear to be any way of getting to them other than removing the canister from under the car. Is there any other access to these?

Also, I've got VIDA running on my PC, and even though I've given it the VIN, it shows me the wrong evap canister in the parts diagrams. It shows the cylindrical canister, but my 850 has the rectangular canister. Does anybody know where I can view accurate diagrams showing the evap components in this car?

One more place to look for is a 4" vacuum hose at the roll-over valve discreetly located above the fuel filter.

'97 non turbo are all Motronic 4.4.

My canister was and is attached to the bracket with large zip ties. Cut them and it will drop out nice and easy

drop it from under the car. I think mine was held by a bolt. I had to cut one of the hose to get it to drop much. I then pulled vacuum on the line to the purge valve to see if it was leaking, mine was. I pulled vacuum on cansiter to check it (pull vacuum on one port, with others blocked. Tried pulling vacuum on line to tank, and could not. So i used very low air pressure on line to tank, to find leak. I could hear the leak with low air pressure. Be carefull you don't want to blow off any hoses you can't get to, like on top of gas tank. good luck.

I fixed my PO440 a year ago. It was the elbow hose near the roll over valve. Now the same code is back. When I remove my gas cap now there is pressure or vacuum, so the tank system seems tight. I think it may be my vent valve or maybe the purge valve again. I never found the vent valve, when I was looking a year ago, but know where to look now. I'm waiting for warmer weather.

Thanks to everybody who replied. The hoses at the rollover valve are deteriorated, so I ordered them today. I should have them Thursday. After I install them, I won't know for a few weeks if that's the only leak, because that's the approximate frequency it throws the P0442 code.

The few week interval is more a function of the test procedure for the EVAP monitor than the "fault time"

Volvos are finicky about the EVAP cycle, my 1999 can take 2000 miles of driving to go ready. The CEL (engine light) does not light but the EVAP monitor shows as " not ready" during this time.
