Introducing myself to MVS

Post by sanpt7777 »

Hello everybody, I created a topic to introduce myself but seems like something faailed and was never posted.
Anyway, my name is Ricardo, I live in Mexico City
Destiny brought to my hands a 2004 Volvo S60 2.5T. I had a Volkswagen but my dad needed some money and sold it. He gave me this Volvo, which was owned by a guy who worked for him but recently quitted and gave the car back to my dad.
Well, I'm pretty sure the car was babied its first 8 years or so, but the last two years, it was never serviced. I think they only changed the oil, wouldn't be surprised if not even that was done. My dad took it to the shop for a normal service and they said the oil was super dirty, just like the air filter and what not.
The car never gave him a problem, but upon receiving it [me], it started to fail.
Here is a list:
-Brake booster switch was repaired at some point with a zip tie, failed and I eplaced it a couple of days ago. There is no longer a message telling me not to drive because my brakes are bad. (I would lose my brakes under hard acceleration, no longer the case)
-Brakes don't work when the car is cold. I guess the electric pump on the vacuum system needs replacing.
-I just made the glove test minutes ago, it inflated completely and what I believe are exhaust fumes came out of the engine through the oil cap.
-One of my low beam xenons doesn't work, ned new bulb, the other one aims way too low. When you start the car it aims normally, then it goes all the way down.
-One of my power folding headrests stopped, uhm, folding. It stays up.
-Wheels are beaten, I refurbished the front ones, which seemed to be in worse condition than the rears. They are Nebula replicas, I don't know at what point they were installed.
-Need new tyres ASAP, I have two spares at the front.
-Need a new front sway bar, PO said it just snapped.
-Need new shocks and springs. Time for Bilstein sports and H&R.
-According to two shops, fuel pump is broken. Fuel falls to the floor when the fuel in the tank moves. Doesnt make a difference if the engine is running or not, so probably it's just a hose.
-Radio makes a weird ticking noise when it's turned on or off.
-The car idles very rough, especially when it warms up, to the point of stalling. If it stalls, you can't turn it on until it cools down.

That's what I remember now haha

I plan on doing a stage zero, and getting mods when possible instead of OEM. Wheels will be replaced by the real deal 18" Nebulas. I saw a set the other day for around $450-$500 dlls here in mexico, but couldn't afford. The alternative would be 17" OZ Superturismo GT wheels.
I'll also get a tune and all the peripherics needed for it to work nicely, above all, a downpipe and exhaust.
I also plan on getting new IPD sway bars to replace the rear SB and install a sway bar in place of the front one that s missing. Bilstein shocks and H&R springs will be installed when the time comes for a new suspension, well, now's the time but there are priorities like the PCV :(

Looking at the brochure, I guess my car came with Sport, Premium and Touring package.
It has nice features like power folding mirrors, double layered windows, sport seats and HU803.
I honestly like the car, and would be cheaper for me to fix it than buying something new. I also have to fix the major problems if I want to sell it, so I might as well keep it.
I'm learning to fix things by myself. I'm 22 and I always get "Volvo price" at shops :( Doing things myself will save me money.

I hope I can give something back to MVS. I'm already a part of swedespeed and they have been very helpful. I'm sure it'll be the same here

Well, thats all
Cheers!!
