2001 C70 Rough Idle, Stalling

Post by jackissocool »

My C70 is idling rough and stalling. Check Engine light it on. The codes I'm getting are P0300 (random misfire) P0014 (Camshaft Position - Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance) and P0342 (Camshaft Position Sensor "A" Circuit Low)

Upon initial issue, there was oil in the spark plug tube on cylinder 4

Everything I've done so far to the car: tune up (plugs, boots, fuel filter, air filter) and replaced the camshaft sensor

Any help on this would be appreciated. Thank you.

Have you jump started it recently? The ignition coils (5 on this car) are sensitive to over voltage and can go bad. Vacuum leaks are also culprits

Bad coil
Bad ETM
and a clogged breather box for starters.

Check all, but start with the coil and spark plug on that cylinder

The timing code is one to be alarmed with. The timing belt could have skipped a tooth. Remove cover ASAP and check the timing.

Also the CVVT solenoid may have clagged.

ETM will NEVER cause a P0014.

The misfire may be related depending on how many teeth it's jumped or how clagged the CVVT is. BTW it's a cylinder 1 misfire code.

The tensioner's tension is probably number 1 suspect or possibly a seized bearing in the tensioner itself or the idler or water pump.

Best way is to remove the belt and spin the above by hand. If they spin freely that's bad. If not I would still buy a new timing tensioner and belt as the spring may have lost tension.

New belt, tensioner, and pulley are currently being installed. I would've had the job done by now, but the belt is giving me trouble trying to squeeze it past the crankshaft. i'm hoping that this problem didn't destroy my valves

Sending good karma. I think if you are idling, you saved the engine.
