The ECU should be a Motronic 4.3 and they are fairly universal on the turbos in the US since they were all 2.3 liter 20 valve engines mated with an automatic transmission and they all had similar smog stuff. In Europe I suspect there is a wider variation in the firmware due to a wider variety of engine and transmission combinations.

Pretty much any ECU from a similar turbo car should work but you may get a Lambda light if the emissions stuff was different on the donor car than it was on yours. Since this sounds light a temporary situation while your ECU is re-mapped I suspect that would not be a problem for you.

On this side of the world T-5 engines are usually 2.0.They are more common than 2.3.Like Lee said, there can be few variations on emissions...sas,egr,1 or 2 o2 sensors, other than that...you should have a matching ecu with transmission.Note that from '96,these european cars were equipped with a chipped keys.If you put ecu from a car which is '96 and later into pre '96 car,ecu would seek a "green light" from immobiliser and the engine will not stay running. It would turn off after 2-3 seconds.

The best solution is to find an ecu which have matching Bosch numbers like yours.

My car is getting a new tune so i would like to save old ecu program and not over write it.

Could i just save the old Chip, take it away from the ecu and put a new Chip from any other 850 Ecu and program it?

ECU's are pretty cheap. Just get a spare and play with it.
