For the record, because you asked, rear cam seal instructions, condensed version:
Remove cap and rotor. Remove plate on end of cam (one bolt). Pull out old cam seal. Put new one in. Replace plate, then rotor and cap. Celebrate.
For the longer version (much longer, but the job truly is as easy as suggested by the condensed version): https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... =1&t=50752

thanks! thats simple. I have to order the seal, I will change it when it comes in. tomorrow I will taoe off the cap/rotor and see if the oil has returned as well as check the rest of the vacuum hoses to see if any are cracked, dry rotted, or disconnectederikv11 wrote:For the record, because you asked, rear cam seal instructions, condensed version:

Looking at the amount of oil, either someone has been excessively clumsy filling it, or you have a blocked PCV blowing the oil past the oil filler seal. These tend to go hard quickly and oil leaks here first and into the top of the engine as you see now.
Rear cam seal leaking is also a good sign of blocked PCV. Whatever fix you do, do it soon or you will blow out the RMS and possibly the front crank seal also.
There are many how-to's to replace the PCV system on MVS, but worth looking at the replacing of the top pipe with a wider pipe. I think it was CN90 that wrote about that, but apologies if it was someone else!
Neil.

what do you think about my MAF situation? low readings? I was thinking about ordering a new MAF and front O2 sensor since I have no clue when or if they were ever changed

I'm having real similar issues as thread poster was having(P0172/P0131/P0410). I recently had to replace MAF sensor, the turbo solenoid on the air box, SAS air pump, some vacuum hoses, spark plugs & wires/ cap & rotor and air filter. Anyway she blows smoke when I get on the throttle...I'm thinking it might be excessive blowby or clogged PCV system which is causing rich running condition. I'm getting terrible gas mileage, like 10 miles to gallon or less. I had some random misfires but I think that was from before I changed the MAF and turbo solenoid.

Here are the answers you need.
That hose on the drivers side goes to a check valve then throttle body and is part of the EVAP system, thus the code.
That oil is from the oil cap seal, it costs 2 bucks and is often not replaced for the cars whole life thus the common sight on these cars of oil right where you are seeing it.
This car has no valve cover gasket. The reason your cam seal is leaking behind the rotor is because you have WAY too much PCV. Then you have oil swimming in your distributor cap, causing bad intermittent spark, which is the reason for the rich running condition and misfire codes, both.
Buy 4 ft of 5/8 inch heater hose and some clamps and the oil filler caps. DONT BUY A PCV "kit". They are worthless.
Do a PCV system hose replacement and PTC nipple cleaning. Replace Oil filler cap. Erase codes and watch car run normally. Also I would find the check valve that that hose should plug into.
You are welcome in advance, these parts will run you ten dollars total.

V_T5, it's a little weird that you would protest the answers you get from these guys, when you have so little experience with these cars by your own admission.
The PCV system on these cars is absolutely a major part of the health of these engines, and it's a Volvo engine, not an Audi.
Your S70 sounds a lot like my old one when I first got it, and cleaning the PTC and replacing the PCV fixed most of it - oil "spitting out" and and everything. Don't drive the car until you've got that fixed, but certainly don't "delete" the PCV - that spells nothing but future trouble. Remember to clean the outlets from the block when you either put on a new kit or go with osman's suggestion.
Osman's also right about the hose on the driver side - that hose was rotted out on my S70, and with that done and the PCV, codes were disappearing like morning fog for sunshine.
