2000 S80. Won't start cam sensor code

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

2000 S80. Won't start cam sensor code

Post by Rynopet »

I bought this car knowing it didn't run, it turns over but doesn't start. The guy I bought it from told me that it ran just fine until he put a new thermostat in when it was snowing out. He said that the engine was wet from blowing snow.
I charged the battery when I got home, then read the codes. It only had one p0343 Cam Sensor code.So after hours of research, I checked the wiring for the sensor, replaced the cam sensor and then the starter. I read on one of the postings that if the starter is drawing to many amps it trips the cam code. Mine was bad and got replaced. It still doesn't start, turns over but won't run. It has spark, it's getting gas........I'm at a loss for what to do next.

I'd check timing marks to make sure they all line up.

Just checked the timing and its right on, then I checked compression and its great 140 on all the cylinders but numerous 6. It reads zero. I'm assuming it's a stuck or bent valve, any thoughts?

If your car is non turbo 140 psi is low. The zero compression on six is probably a bent valve. Engine probably has some miles on it so it looks like head needs to come off to see condition of valves. If you pour 1 teaspoon of oil in cylinders and compression goes up then bores are worn.

Ok, I'll do the oil test tomorrow and the head will probable be in the near future. Thanks for the input.
