Cruise control has stopped working V70 - 2002
I know the cruise control will not work if your brake light switch is bad..There are of course other reasons but that is probably the most common.floydyboy wrote:Hi all, i hope some one can help on this. my cruise control has stopped working on my volvo v70 2.4 petrol 2002, and there has been a message showing engine system service required and has only been there since the cruise going down, the message is not there all the time and when it does show i turn the key to off and back on again ad it is gone? i have also noticed that when i press the cruise switch it sometimes shows on the dashboard but goes as soon as i press 1 of the pedals????? hope some one can help

Cruise control will be disabled when there is something wrong with the car.
I had a "Transmission Service Required" warning and the Cruise-symbol could still be switched ON, but it wouldn't work/function.
Your best bet is probably to get the codes read (but first have a look at Atefitty's advice, as that is free

I believe the relay, Electronic throttle module, computer, and the stalk itself are the sole controls on a newer model. Definitely have a look at the cut-out switch.
The good thing is there aren't any pesky vacuum lines or pumps on the newer ones like the old models had to track down.

I've had my cruise control go out on me, too. It communicates via the CANBUS and sometimes the microprocessor that it's on needs to be reset. (Do your radio steering wheel controls still work?)
Try this to reboot the all microprocessors. It works for me.
-disconnect the battery, touch the cables to each other for 10 mins to discharge the entire system.
-turn the key to position II & reconnect the battery.
- wait a minute and start the car and see if that does it.

My cruise control quit working a few weeks ago on my 2001 V70 2.4T. When pushing the "cruise" button on the steering wheel, the "cruise" indicator would not come up on the LCD panel, so of course it wouldn't engage cruise when the "+" button was pressed. After reading this thread, and another similar one, I tried pulling out the fuse (located under the panel on the left side of the dash, accessible when driver's door is open) for the ECM for 10 seconds, then put the fuse back in. Amazingly, after that, the cruise light goes on when it's suppoosed to, and cruise control works again.
So I guess I have to reboot my car occasionally. Did Microsoft program this thing?

You just cleared Engine codes. So next time you get an error it will stop working again.
It is better to read codes after issue is reproduced.

If you have questions about Volvo firmware ask me. I may know an answer
I replaced the Brake Position switch on the Booster. No tools required:

The scanner which will read the BPPS error is usually only a Vida/Dice so is difficult to guess the diagnostic route without one. Expensive sensor to replace at over $115 if you're guessing.Steely wrote:I replaced the Brake Position switch on the Booster. No tools required:
