In my last post, I mentioned that I bought a set of Bridgestone Potenza RE760's for my 850 Turbo. In reality, because of the way things turned out, I bought a set +1.
I was inspecting them prior to installation, and I noticed several small flaws with one tire in the first set.

I believe this is a manufacturing defect that was either missed by their QC department, or it is small enough that it doesn't count. So I wondered, which of those was the answer?
I put in an email to the online vendor (with images), and to Bridgestone corporate basically asking 'Is this a problem?' Because I did not receive a response, after a couple days I decided to order a fifth tire so that I could install them. It arrived without issue (coincidently enough with the same date codes as the other four), and I used it to complete the set. So, the one funny tire sits in my garage while I decide what to do.
My suspicion is that most installers wouldn't notice something like this because they would have to check every tread of every tire, and I don't think they get paid enough to be that diligent.
I am a bit surprised the Bridgestone did not immediately respond given the past Firestone fiasco. As far as the vendor, I have done business with them before on several occasions and have not had any issues. Then again, I never asked for anything other than the tires that I paid for! I don't want to flame anyone unnecessarily until I get some answers, but I will say the first vendor was NOT Tirerack. However, they did supply #5....
The good thing is that I have a full size Columba spare for the car regardless (ready for bending!), so a fifth tire will be put into service one way or the other.
Any thoughts as far as a defect of this size? I know it's nice to say 'They should be perfect', but everything is built to some tolerance. Like I said, I bet this would have gone unnoticed by most, and maybe run without issue. I'm not sure.
