2004 XC70 How Big Can I Go with Tires?

Post by TheDamajr »

Hey guys! First of all, I'm brand new to this forum, so... wazzup niggas

Secondly, I wanna get some decent bigger off road/snow tires for my '04 XC70; I'm wanting something that'll be great off road/in snow, but that will also give my car some extra ground clearance (and extra guyishness). I've seen several people with General Grabber AT2s and Cooper Discoverer ATSs on their XCs, and I really like the way they look - and I've also seen nothing but awesome reviews for the tires. Here's the issue - I've gone to several tire retailer sites, but literally all of them give me the middle finger when I try to find a set that fits my car, which is strange considering I've seen like 2-3 XC70s ('03-'07 body style) with those tires, and people go as big as 225/75-16. One thing I've noticed, though, is that the majority of these have Tellus wheels, while I have a set of Xenias on mine. Does that make a difference? Aren't they the same size?

Sorry if I rambled. Coffee and ADHD don't go well together. :?

I don't mind having a taller profile on my car, given I'm aware how much the real speed will increase compared with what the speedometer will show.

Starting with the tire size Volvo recommends for your car, you can check the speed increase with a site like this http://www.roadkillcustoms.com/hot-rods ... z3XF5FwIfi , for example at 60mph

A 75-16 is big, the tire wall must be huge, perhaps similar to the ones on a Minivan.

One thing to make sure, use the exact same tire size with the same wear on all 4 corners of the car, because the 4 wheel drive system you have is sensitive about the smallest tire diameter variation on the same axe.
