1999 v70 computer conditions RFID key fuel pump question

Post by voom8 »

Hello,

Still trying to debug my fuel pump relay problem.
I have mine circumvented with a switch right now, and I have replaced the capacitors.
unfortunately replacing the capacitors did not seem to work

I have to go and see (with a voltmeter) if the computer is actually pulsing the relay or not.

But I meant to ask on another thread...

Does the 1999 Volvo V70 have RF electronic tags in the ignition keys?
Does the computer try to electronically read the ignition key before it allows the
fuel pump to run?

The '99 does have a chipped key and if the key code isn't read or isn't properly read the ECU will shut down the ignition for sure and I think the fuel. A key code problem will result in the car starting and then immediately shutting down. It will also set a P code but I can't remember the number off the top of my head.

A common chipped key problem is the antenna ring that surrounds the ignition switch or a dirty connection at the connector to the antenna ring.
