1998 s70 T5 M Koni FSD Shocks/Struts

Post by shaker_chi »

I have a 98 S70 T5 M that I picked up 2 years ago. It came with the Koni adjustable shocks and struts. I live in Chicago and we have lousy roads and even on the softest setting the yellows give me a very rough ride. IPD has a 25% sale on all Koni products and I was thinking of getting the FSD shocks and struts. Has anyone every tried these? On my 850 I have the Bilstein sports in the front and Bilstein HD shocks in the back and find that set up more agreeable to the roads here in Chicago, but I was wondering if anyone has any feedback on the FSD's. They are a bit pricey, but if worth it I would spend the money.

FSDs will be harder
I can't believe you think Yellows are rough on the soft setting!

If you want the best ride a NEW set of stock Volvo struts and shocks is the way to go.

JRL....The roads here in Chicago are the absolute worst. Is there anything else I can look at to make my ride more comfortable?

Hey Shake: J is right. These cars will not ride like a Caddy even with stock struts and shocks. A while back I was on a road trip and blew out a strut bushing/mount to the point of were I could move the front tire in and out by pushing/pulling on it with my hands. I was in a jam on time constraints, needed the car fixed and the only product line available to meet the demand was KYB. They are decent and provide a similar ride as stock. They have been on the car for 30K now and are still performing well. If I had the time I would have opted for stock parts because they lasted 150K. This car is driven easy as it was my wife's and now my daughters. Regards, SpeedyPete

I have been driving my 850 for the past 16 years and a previous S70 and my current S70. When I hit a bump my friend calls my S70 the "brain shaker". My 850 rides much better and I even have lowering springs on it. I just find the Koni Yellows an extremely stiff ride. I would NEVER expect my car to ride like a caddy. I'll probably end up going stock or with the Bilstein sports like I have on my 850. Thanks for the feedback.

I have the Koni FSD set with Eibach sport springs and I think the car rides great. It was just what I was looking for in a shock/strut. The car handles great, its more stiff than stock (which I prefer), but is a comfortable ride and she takes bumps well. I Had a long commute in jersey on some crappy roads and I would recommend them to anyone looking for comfort and performance. The only options IMO are yellows and FSD, but i think If I were to do it over again, id think id go with the FSD again, but drop the stance just a little more since its no longer my DD. Hope this helps, but its all opinion on what kind of ride you like.

Tirerack has a pretty interesting comparison of FSD vs Yellows. This might provide some insight. I like the yellows myself.
