This summer is was thinking of upgrading some things in my car ie; carb, headers, intake.
My car is a 240 dl 2.1L, 1984.
hopefully someone has some good sites or close dealers that could help me out.
Volvo 240 DL Upgrades
Hi MichaelCALGARY, I assume by your name you live in Calgary, Alberta ... I also live there
You say your car has a 2.1L, the 1984 should have a 2.3L engine. These engines are the same except for the slight displacement difference.
The question really is what do you want out of your car? What will you be using it for? How much work are you able to do? and How much are you looking at spending?
The early to mid '80's DL had the lowest power levels, so there is good potential to increase power. The easiest, fastest, and probably cheapest way would be to find a B230FT engine from a Volvo 700 series Turbo, these engines produce about 168HP stock, compared to your 107HP, and are easy to upgrade to 225-250HP.
Keeping your existing engine ... well the DL series had the lowest compression which will definitly have an impact of total power potential, also because the DL uses a carb and there are not any aftermarket intake manifolds available the only upgrade to intake would be installing an EFI system from a GL (or again upgrading everything to the 700 series turbo) But just adding headers, a freer flowing exhaust, and a hotter cam would make a noticable difference, probably up to 125HP range.
As a final solution you could always do what I did, replace the Volvo engine with a Small Block Ford V8, that will give you all the power you want.
