Air bag warning light

Post by tcrookes »

I have a S40 1.9D 02 reg. Would you believe it is about 2 months out of the extended warranty and the air bag warning light has come on. I am told these faults can be expensive to repair but to be honest I have no idea. Is it a dealer job as the handbook says, a local garage or indeed a diy job. Thanks for any help or advice you can give. TC.

Go to the dealer...this is a major saftey issue and even though out of warranty (due to it being so close to being covered) the dealer has been known to go ahead and cover it or at least give a huge break on the cost of repair. Don't delay. The longer you wait, the more time it's out of warranty.

Just to let you know I took the car to the dealer who checked out the air bag light which showed two problems, can't remember the technical details but the light is now off. They say it may or maynot come on again but if it does and it needs a new air bag it will be

An interesting addition to this thread. I have a 2003 V40 with 75,000 miles. The SRS Light would not turn off. Took the car to the dealer in Southern California (same dealer serviced the car since it was sold). They estimated work at $475 - $500 for an airbag contact/relay/something.

When I went to pick up the car, they didn't charge me anything. All they did was reset the light and took the car for a testdrive.

I don't suppose there is any way to test the airbad that doesn't involve actually having it explode? (Just kidding!)
