01 V70 Engine swap.

Post by 01v70dave »

Does anyone know if I will have any trouble getting my smog check completed if I install a 2.4 LPT where a 2.3 HPT should be. Not worried about a VIN check. Just will it run clean enough and will it effect my mileage much. I can get a 2.4 cheap from a friend, but is it worth it? I live in California so smog checks are a must.

Thanks, Dave
Love my V70

As the 2.4T has more compression potentially it may get closer to knocking or detonation, so knock sensors may tell engine ECU to retard timing and/or boost to compensate for this.

Be sure knock sensors are working and use the 2.3Hpt ones on the 2.4T.

Overall emissions should be the same given that O2 sensors are newish (less than 120 k miles old) and catalyst is in good condition.
