[Any Year] Trick for depressing brake pedal ?

Post by MrAl »

Hello there,

Anyone figure out a trick for pressing the brake pedal when working on the brakes? I'd like to be able to press the pedal so i can see what is going on with the brake when inspecting it from outside the vehicle with the jack under the car. I dont really want anyone sitting in the car at this point.
Maybe some mechanical mechanism, or other trick?
Not sure if it would be enough to depress with a wooden 2 by 4 or something between the steering wheel and pedal, as that would not allow observing the up and down action very well, but if it works then that's great. Any ideas?

Thanks :-)
I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.

Jack stands and a lovely assistant....

But..

What function are you trying to diagnose? It's pretty simple to figure out if calipers are working by looking at the rotor.

PM me because I have to drive through Jersey next week, if you are working on your car...
