Hi all,
Last week I had my dash off to change out my instrument cluster, I was swapping in one with a trip computer. I disconnected the ground wire, but not the actual connector from the passenger airbag, and I didn't have the battery unhooked (I know, now that was a mistake.) Since then, my SAS light has been staying on for about 3-5 seconds after I've started the car, and the other lights have gone off, but the battery light stays on. The first time the battery light came on it went out after a minute of driving, but now its on and staying on, although I've noticed no issues. The battery is new, I checked the connector to the airbag in case i did loosen it by accident (I hadn't) and tightened down the ground wire more. The battery and alternator are on the quite new side (a couple months old,) and the wires look good with two exceptions: There is some slight corrosion on the negative ground wire, and what appears to be heat damage on the clear/white plastic bit that connects one wire to the alternator. Do you think that the battery is linked to this brief SAS light and me disconnecting the ground? Or some other coincidental event? Any suggestions on how to fix this?

What SAS light?
These cars don't have that kind of light.

I'm guessing SRS light. Disconnecting the airbag or console with power on can scramble the air bag system
I believe this is a dealer only reset.

If it's srs light,then Vol-fcr is needed.

Hi,
That's the "Service" light right?
Yeah, i have read and have been told that the only way to reset it is with the Volvo Scan Tool made for that. That really irks me. For the other Volvos, you press in the trip odometer reset button and turn the ignition key, then wait, then turn it off (or something like that) but for this particular car (1998 v70) it requires that special 'tool'. It plugs into the OBD2 connector, and you turn the key on or something and a light blinks and it resets (or something like that). Only catch is, this 'tool' is sold for something like $170 USD which is just plain outrageous, which must be an incredible markup from the cost.
Anyone here know how to get one cheaper?
Group buy, then pass around
I was told this does not affect inspection, to just ignore it.

I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.
1998 v70, non turbo, FWD, base model, on the road from April 2nd, 2015 to July 26, 2023.
