WW2 VE Day 70th Anniversary Washington DC Flyover

Post by jblackburn »

WW2 planes have always been my favorite in aviation history (I just really don't care that much for jets). So it was really pretty awesome to see all of these rare planes IN THE AIR today.

I toured a B-17 when I was younger, and a couple P-51D's at air shows, but never seen all of them in the air together.

My grandfather was stationed in Europe on a B-17 in 1943-1944 before his plane was shot down. He was the only survivor.

Here's some video footage of some of my favorites:

Great video,

My father in law was a tail gunner in a B-17 in WWII. He wasn't much on war stories but I had to laugh when he was talking about silhouettes of different "friend and foe" airplanes that they wanted him to memorize. He had a better idea, if it turned in on them he shot at it.

Exact same position my grandfather was in! He didn't like to talk about it either.

That works :D
