1999 V70XC Headlight and turn signals are intermittent

Post by skinser »

I have a 1999 V70XC with 225,000 miles. The headlights and turn signals will randomly stop working, then will start working again. I have replaced the turn signal switch. Any suggestions?

I believe there was a headlight switch recall on the 1999 models, there was on my T5.

Ignition switch is another possibility if the two fail simultaneously.

The ignition switch can be bought at Rockauto under the name Airtex Wells (LS963) and is actually a genuine Volvo part reboxed. About $18 cheaper.

Both the headlights and the turn indicators seem to go out at the same time.

Turn them on, then try jiggling the key in the ignition, to see if you can generate the fault. That will tip you off to the failure of the ignition switch, electrical part.

This is an easy, 15 minute replacement job - the electrical part of the switch pops off the key part so you don't need new keys or anything crazy like that.
