No need for that since you allready changed it last week.Try with harder driving for 20-30 minutes in high rpm and see if the noise go away.Give those trapped horses a nice race. :wink:

Hydro lifters.

In that case, oil level and viscosity being good, you' ll have to replace lifters. They have this tiny ball valve that's supposed to hold oil inside the lifter and it soinds like it's not. Some recommend removing and soaking in solvent to loosen and clean inside deposits but I'd rather replace especially if mileage is high. Again, make sure noise is coming from top of engine. Did that for my VW ànd price was like 8 a piece for INA, but this being Volvo... Engine ran a lot different after.

Or, oil pressure is low(er) and top gets less than it should, or sludge partially covers oil ports.

He would have oil light flicker.
If that is the problem,all of that should be more noticeable in colder weather or in cold engine because oil would be thicker than in hot weather and hot engine.
