Hey,
I will just say that, if you don't find factory side rails to install, or don't have time to do the install, the Thule feet that are designed for cars without factory rails work very well on the 850. I have them on mine and have carried all sorts of things - canoes, bikes, lumber, etc.
The clamps at the bottom of the feet have metal lugs which go into pre-existing holes in the door frames, so they are rock solid!

I bought genuine Volvo roof racks (not roof rails) for my '98 v70 from Steingold Volvo. There $195 plus shipping, seemed like the cheapest easiest way to add a roof carrying capabilities. Roof rails would be more versatile but I would have had to find and buy a set of rails, and then buy a set of cross bars. These roof racks include the feet and crossbar in one piece. They carry my large roof box very well.

Hi,

Thanks for the added replies now.

I'll have to look for those roof holes and see if i can spot them.
Also, now that i think about it, i only have to carry something home maybe once every 2 years or so, like a 2x4 or some pine. Usually not that much though, so maybe i'll check into putting the passenger seat down or else see if i can whip something up that will fit into those 'holes' in the roof or top of the door.
Thanks for all the ideas and suggestions.
I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.

Just one person's opinion, but the rails just seem to finish off the V70 in a good way. I know we are only dressing up a wagon, but they do a great job and can handle more weight than I thought possible. As you own one you tend to look around at all the others you pass, and you notice the ones with no racks and with the rails and the ones with the other styles. Before you purchase, just keep an eye open and see what looks good to you and it will come to you .

Does anyone know what size thread the factorybrack mount bolts are? I scored a great rack of ebay, but I dont have the mount bolts. I want to use stainless hardware on this too. They look like an M6 thread

If you mean the threads in the roof, they are M5 x 0.8. That's for a P80 car.
