Service light on then off after first 1/2 mile
Me again with the new (to me) 96 850 wagon, Service light is on when we start up the car and goes off within 1/2 miles of driving or just sitting idling for about a minute or two. Reason for concern or not???? Otherwise car is great. (although just posted regarding another concern that I am assuming is electrical) Also, is there a way to see if timing belt has been changed? Just bought it with 70K miles, exactly and have no records. HOw do I know if I need to change it?

Service light is a timed reminder to change oil etc. It has no relationship to actual condition of anything.

As for the belt, it's due at 70k on your year, so look at it -- it's under a shroud so it's hard but try to peek around it -- and see if it looks new. Chances are it's not been done yet.
