1997 850 Rear Speakers

Post by mash »

For the first time since I bought my car, I had passengers sitting in the back and they said that they could hardly hear the music so I checked to see if I had faded the sound of the speakers to the front but it wasn't. When I then faded all the sound to the rear speakers, there was no sound at all in the car. How can I got about troubleshooting this problem and has anyone ever experienced something similar?

Thanks in advance

Chances are the magnets on the tweeter fell off and have pretty well crushed the larger cone. It happens to all of them but at least the glue is environmentally friendly.

So best to just get new ones or is it easy to repair?

The actual factory replacements, if you can even get them these days, are really expensive and they are an oddball size and mounting configuration.

I used some aftermarket 5 x 7 speakers but I had to chop up the old speakers to use as a mounting plate.

Details are in this thread:

After replacing everything they sound great except for the God awful 6+db bump at around 100 Hz on the factory head units. One of these days I will scare up a SC901 that I can actually set to a flat frequency response.

I used the Infinity reference series speakers that Lee has pictured in his awesome article. I filled the car with them and also added a factory amp under the dash and wow!
