2000 V70 Brake Problem Mystery

Post by famfeld »

Hi. 6 weeks ago I put new pads and rotors on the front of my car. They started squeaking some so I took off the rotors sanded them a bit to remove the glaze. No more squeak, but on the right side I get this horrendous noise when I'm going between 1 and 30 mph sounding like King Kong rubbing his finger on the top of a gigantic wine glass. I took the pads out, checked everything, regrreased everything and put it back together. Stopped squeaking for 1/2 mile now back to the same. My neighbor suggested switching the pads between left and right side ands seeing if the noise switches sides too. This seems like a good idea and I plan on doing it if it doesn't rain. The pads are semi-metallic and the rotors are premium quality Centric brand. Any ideas? This is really frustrating.

Thanks,

-Feld

Are you sure it's brakes? At 30 mph, try swerving right and left to see if the noise changes. Ypur description sounds like a bad wheel bearing

Possibly. I'll switch the pads then check to see if the noise follows. I did the wheel bearing at this time too. Used a FAG brand (supposed to be OEM). It seemed ok before putting it in (smooth and tight).

Make sure the dust shield isn't rubbing.
