1999 V70 Aux / Bluetooth input ideas?

Post by PapaHepcat »

Yesterday, I installed a bluetooth adapter into my wife's Toyota Sienna. Super easy, just plugged into the CD changer port in the back.

It got me to thinking again that I'd like to do something similar in my V70. I've come up with zilch for similar adapters. I'm doing the tape adapter thing now, but going wireless is way better.

I want to keep the stock stereo. I've had enough aftermarket radios stolen that I don't want to mess with that. I also don't want to use an FM Transmitter. Going straight bluetooth adapter would be preferable, but aux input would be fine as well. I used to have this Kinivo BTC450 in another car, and it worked great, but it needs an aux input.

I've seen bluetooth tape adapters on Amazon, but they don't get very good reviews, so I'm a little leery.

Anyone had any success?

There is a product that does exactly what you want called 'Yatour'.
Plugs into the CD changer port, offers USB/SDcard/AUX inputs, has an optional bluetooth unit and can be used with your mobile phone for handsfree calling.

IPD also sells an adapter called GROM. I used it in my wife's 2007 V70 and it works great.

I wired into my 1999 unit with the tape option and have been happy with that. Much cheaper than the GROM which is about 150 USD all in.

I use a Belkin Car Audio Connect. It's an easy install, I used the tape player in my SC816 with a tape adapter and a dual female coupler and tucked the wires in the dash. One button connect and sounds good. Has a built-in mic for phone calls, as well.

I recently installed the 'Yatour' unit in my 2000 v70xc. Very straight forward and works great. It was about USD100 from a German ebay seller with the Bluetooth accessory included.

Did you have to download software to get it to work?

Not sure what you mean. The unit itself is pretty much plug and play, one plug into the CD changer port at the back of my sc 901 and also connect in to the power cable. I drilled a hole in the glovebox to mount the unit there and also routed the bluetooth dongle/mic behind the dash and up behind the driver side front pillar trim. Only as I had the dash out for another reason otherwise I wouldn't have bothered! Easy done in an hour. I have an Android phone and it connects straight away once paired and the head unit is set to CD changer. Streams music however you wish to play it on the phone. I don't use the card reader function and only briefly tested the handfree phone function (it worked) so can't really comment on that. But it appears to support native Android function from my experience if that helps.
