2000 s70glt se ABS module codes
i have been trying to determine what is wrong with my my abs system..(no bite in high speed panic stops)...booster, master and abs module have been changed to no avail, but what the diagnostic is reading from the module is EXTRAPOLATION COUNTER- FRONT LEFT45, OTHER 3 CORNERS READ 0......while driving front right reads 11.....any help with this would be greatly appreciated, abs light is not on but flashes when scanned

There is a possibility that you are not satisfied with your friction material. The 850 brakes were adequate but not overly large. Many customers would not prefer a strong bite at high speed. I do - but that's a different story. I wasn't getting from your explanation that it was braking hard at high speed and then stopped. So I have to assume its friction related or a data issue.
If I understand the data problem - in short 3 wheels read the same but one is vastly different and you are not getting codes from the ABS module and are not feeling the ABS pumping action kick in. ( Please correct me if I am wrong - I'm still on my first cup of coffee.
You will need to test the 4 sensors at the connection to the abs computer. If you are getting a reading of 3 on 3 of the wheels and 45 on only one of them then a problem exists. In a straight line they should be the same. Matty Moo has a post that explains how to test. I will try to find it.
As they are just hall effect sensors I would examine them at the wheel to see if they have too much metal fragments on them . Remove the 10mm bolt that holds them and wipe clean ( look for obvious cracks) .

thanks for the info JD......high speed braking feels like the pads are not gripping properly, but what leads me to think its electronic is the fact that the ABS does not even pulse.......i will relay your test to my mechanic and hopefully shed more light into this.........matt has been a great help with supplying and testing ABS modules and sharing his vast technical insight into this.........This site is a blessing

He doesn't have an abs issue and I don't think any of those parts needed to be replaced. I think has has brake pads that just don't bite as he would like.

Pad materials totally TRANSFORM a car's braking power and brake feel.
Mintex make great pads for Volvo with good "bite". Too many metallic fibres in the pad material can give a long wearing pad with little to no feel.
You don't even need ABS to have great brakes. In fact you can drive on dry roads with medium to moderate braking with NO ABS MODULE and hardly tell it isn't there.

something i mentioned months ago but forgot to mention recently is that somtimes when braking on rough surfaces, (at any speed) the brakes bite like a vice grip like they're supposed to. If it were a pad issue this would not happen at all, no?.....I am positive this only happens on rough ground. This is the last peice of info i have to offer, hopefully someone has an answer because i am seriously thinking of parting it out.........what good is a GLT-SE without brakes

Under normal conditions the ABS does absolutely nothing. The only time the ABS is active is when the system detects one or more wheels turning at a significantly different speed than the others. I honestly don't know what is "significant" since that is all set in the programming inside of the module and when it is activated it always has the pulsing sound and the pedal will vibrate.
The brakes continue to work just fine without ABS and, in the absence of wheel spin, ABS makes no difference whatsoever in the way the car stops.
I have had a similar feeling to what you describe when I bought a car with ceramic pads. Many people like them but I don't like the fact that they need to get heat into them to stop properly. On a panic stop on the highway after not using the brakes at all they have a slight delay before they start to bite hard. I just replaced them with Mintex Reds and I was happy again. They always stopped but the feel they had kind of freaked me out.

As alluded to above, it is an Anti-lock Braking System, it kicks in IF and WHEN a wheel or wheels are detected to be braking more rapidly than the others, or preset parameters. On the highway, at speed, ABS should NOT operate, unless a wheel loses traction.
Pads are the cheapest thing to change to determine if it is a "feel" thing, or if you have a hydraulic problem, which should illuminate the BRAKE warning light.
If your ABS is failing, it should allow you to lock the brakes, not reduce effective brake power. Unless a valve in the pump were to stay open partway?
Do the brakes seem normal in other situations?

2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)

thanks to all for your input and advice on my braking issue. all of you have made me realize it is not an ABS issue so i am going to go down the line and tackle all of your suggestions starting with the booster valve. Any advice about purchasing these parts outside of the volvo dealer would be greatly appreciated
