'95 854T - A/C compress. & Rad fan cycling

Post by whilst »

Hi All, A/C compressor cycling every 5 seconds at idle. When it engages, cooling fan cycles to 'HI' with it.?
Pressures are 45 at rest, 30 when engaged. Not very cool in car. Even at 1500 rpm.
Probably could use some 134.
Only code is 417 -Pass fan sensor.
Anyone else ever had these symptoms?
Thanks,Jeff

You are low on R-134A and typically it is due to a slow leak in the evaporator core. You can likely buy time by recharging it but it won't get better on its own. I'm not sure what you have for a gauge but some of them actually have a scale under the scale to correct for ambient temperature that will get you pretty close. The pressure will typically be well in excess of 100 psi with the compressor off on a hot day and it will typically be in the mid to upper 40s on a warm day with the compressor running. It all depends on the outside temperature.

The radiator fan cycling on with the compressor is as it should be.

Thanks Lee,
Evap and 'everything' is new as of 3 yrs. ago.
I figured low on 134,but never saw/heard a fan go up and down in speed like that.
You can feel the relay click on and off w/ compressor.
R&R sensor fan, not real dirty though. Turns freely. Cleaned the 'bulb' inside it.
I'll give it a go.
Thanks.
Jeff
