I think what you are describing is the PTC valve. All that is going on there is that there is an electric heater in the valve to create a Positive Temperature Coefficient between the PCV and the intake. It can be completely unplugged and the car will still run OK.

Thanks Lee!
A few times after running the car at temperature it seemed to smoke for awhile and then it stopped.
it smelled like possibly oil, but not exactly sure. I don't think it is coolant as I have run the car for awhile and it ran clear from the exhaust. I was wondering if there is some valve or something in the pvc system that modulates and could cause that.
I leak checked the coolant system and leaned the pvc system. it also has all new valve seals installed.
Again it does not seem to do it all the time for just a short while with warm engine.
Any idea's?
Thanks JB

The oil smoke / smell may just be a result of having things apart and it will need a few heat cycles to burn off any residual oil that got on the exhaust system during the disassembly and reassembly process Mine always stink after I do something major which is partially due to my messiness and partly due to the fact that the car has been parked for a while. I rarely get to things start to finish in a short period of time when it is big project just due to limited time on my part and the luxury of having lots of spare cars to drive. Having spare cars takes the pressure off to get them fixed quickly.

It's those first few coughs, those are the ones you have to persevere through and keep cranking the starter, until it is running. Once it is flooded you have to start over, dry it out, cranking will indeed do no good. Glad you got it started.
As mentioned it's going to stink while it burns everything off, you have to run it for a bit.
A misfire code on # 5 is however unusual after the initial hiccups, if that keeps up I would swap around its coil then its injector.

Thanks,
It is actually a #5 injector fault. At one point I did a few tests with Vida and that #5 injector at one point did not sound healthy. Instead of a steady pulsing, it sounded erratic. Most likely a wiring issue I am thinking. I'll keep you posted.

If you swap around the connectors it will tell you if the problem is the wiring or the injector. The injectors all fire at the same time.

I'm not sure that is true on the ME7 ECU system. I think that system fires them sequentially but I'm not 100% on that.erikv11 wrote:If you swap around the connectors it will tell you if the problem is the wiring or the injector. The injectors all fire at the same time.

Oh, good point Lee, ME7. I definitely don't know about ME7, only that it is true for M4.3 and M4.4.

The ECU trace on ME7 shows independent firing of the fuel injectors, so I think that is right
