Hi Adam,

You really are having 'fun' with this aren't you!

I still suspect one of the 3 items I originally suggested are the root of the problem, or a vacuum leak. The symptoms all point to the problems of a vacuum/pressure leak, or fuelling problem.

I hate to say to go check all these again, or substitute known good parts, but the TCV valve not holding vacuum/pressure would give this type of symptom, as would the turbo by-pass valve (or CBV). Try to pull and hold a vacuum on the CBV as they do spilt. Last guy I worked with on this found even though he had checked it, it was the problem.

Also check around the fuel tank area for split pipes preventing a steady fuel pressure under load. I have got the full rear sub-frame out of my car, and you would be amazed at the tired parts/pipe in there. Some like the fuel lines look mostly good but are being replaced as they are heavily corroded on the metal bends on the ends.

I'll be in Scotland for the next week, but will check in to see how things are going.

Neil.

Thx Neil I will go through it again over the weekend not sure I've mention but it has been chipped about 340 bhp
I've just order lots of various bore size vac pipe and will redo all one by one at weekend
The tcv with 3 pipes on it is it on any other car I can take it from ? Thx again Adam

+1 to Neil, sounds like a boost surge/dump or fuel starvation.
Is there a screen at the inlet to the pump/pumps that could be clogging?
Since it does build boost even if intermittently I would steer away from vacuum lines and suspect control devices (TCV/CBV etc)
Since you are in UK, is car FWD or AWD? (FWD less fiddly bits in fuel tanks)
Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)

I am not 100% sure but I believe all first gen v/s70 turbos use the same tcv. What boost are you running. If you ate running more than 14psi the standard tcv can"t cope. You will need an HD tcv from IPD or ARD. They can deal with upto 22psi. I am running 18-20psi an 312bhp/300ft/lb torque and had to do to that. Also you will meed nearer 60psi fuel pressure for what you are running. What chip are you using.

If it's been chipped for higher horsepower I'm guessing you need a different TCV than stock. You might be simply blowing off the waste gate ..that would explain the symptoms. This is out of my realm of expertise, though.
