P0015 code

Post by genna »

This code keeps coming back. I reset it a couple of days ago and now its back. I know it means " CAMSHAFT POSITION-TIMING OVER RETARDED"
but can anyone tell me what it actually is and what has to be repaired.
I'd like to know before I go to the garage so I know what they'll do?
Thanx

There's a camshaft position sensor for the timing (related to timing belt)...it is reading that your timing is retarded...could be bad sensor, or it could be that your timing belt is actually slightly off....best to get it checked...how many miles on your current timing belt? For a 2003, I believe the change interval is 105,000 miles but belts can stretch...then timing is off...if they stretch and break, there goes your engine (destroyed)...Like I said, it's best to get this checked as soon as possible.

Yes, get it checked out, though at those miles I doubt it's the belt...most likely the camshaft position sensor. Aren't you still under warranty?

No more warranty. 2003 S40 in Canada was 4yrs/80000 km.
Car was purchased Dec.2002 so warranty has expired. Too bad.
