Just to add a little more information to this thread...
The CRC "Spray" Dielectric Grease is a total bust. It is not a 'spray' at all, it is more like an 'ooze". When you pull on the trigger, the grease oozes out the top nozzle the same way it would come out of a tube of the same grease after you squeeze the tube. So it comes out of the 'spray' can like toothpaste, not like any kind of spray at all. This means it will NOT shoot up into the tail gate door latching mechanism. This was a big disappointment as the cost was 9 dollars (USD) for a small can. Yeah it is grease, and is probably high quality, but it does not spray as expected so it cant really be used for the tail gate door latch unless it is taken off and greased like that, then replaced. The lithium grease really does spray out not ooze out. Maybe there is another type of spray dielectric grease (just clear silicone grease) on the market in a better type of can with a smaller tube too. The tube applicator part is like 1/4 inch in diameter, while the lithium grease tube part is only like 1/16 inch diameter, which makes a big difference when you go to try to grease something. I tried greasing the door hinges on my microwave oven and that was a bust too because the silicone grease applicator tube is too wide to fit into the narrow space where you can grease or oil the hinges. I had to use a toothpick to get some grease in there, and that doesnt work too well either.
Maybe i'll have to put together a custom made tube that will connect to the tube that is on the can now. Make the diameter very narrow, like 1/16 inch. The drawback here though is that the grease still wont flow into the joint, it will just hang out on the top like toothpaste. This kind of grease has to be 'spread' not 'sprayed' because it is too thick to flow like oil. The lithium grease does flow somewhat so it goes down into the joints without too much trouble.
Long story short (oh well, too late for that again) i am now officially tired of messing with this so the latch is now greased with the spray lithium grease. If it dries up i'll junk the car
