I still have not dealt with this yet, but I am leaning towards a professional evaluation on this charge, then maintaining it from there. Still on the fence a bit though. I will report back what I find out.

I'd measure the a/c clutch gap first.

+1, start with the AC clutch gap. This is really easy to measure, and the first thing to look at when there is clicking.
