1999 V70 Inspection failure, Monitors not ready?

Post by moco292 »

Hi Guy's' I have a 1999 V70 Basic Non Turbo Wagon which i posted once before and since got the used ETM in and working, Thanks for all the prior help! Car runs and drives great for over 200k! Inspection failed due to EVAP codes, replaced most of the hose's related to the EVAP system including the large curved on going into the canister, had to smoke a Cigar to find that one  ! That is while my Mechanic smoked the system. No more EVAP codes but now we are getting three Monitor not ready codes if that's what they are called, Catalyst,EVAP and O2 not ready? I am at my wits end :? with my car and possibly my mechanic, he tells me to drive the car which i have done for a few trips now and no change? I have heard and read about the specified driving sequence prescribed and want to know would that apply here or are we possibly missing something? Lastly after replacing EVAP hoses check engine light went off for a goodly amount of time and now it's back on since the last inspection computer check. looking forward to your thoughts! :)

Undoubtedly drive cycle related. Look up "drive cycle" on this site. The particular sequence is quite detailed and specific. If you just drive for a while, you're likely to check all the boxes, but if time is of the essence, you can actually endeavor to execute the precise drive cycle required.

I would think the re-occurring CEL needs to be addressed first, and then a drive cycle may be well in order. Have you read the car for codes, they may point you to the right culprit. Please post back if you have the codes.
Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.
Disclaimer: We (very) seldom do that

Your CAT and O2 sensor circuits should go ready as soon the car is driven to operating temperature. The EVAP one can take a lot more. If you can get one more monitor to go ready you can pass inspection in NZy for a 1999, up to 2 not ready are allowed. CEL cannot be on though.

Thanks guy's for all the help earlier with the Check engine light issues! Success, replaced the ABS module and all evils were cured, it seems it drove the computer at least the NYS inspection one crazy coming up with all kinds of codes which seemed non related! :D
