Timing Belt on 1989 Volvo 240

Post by greggarrison »

1989 Volvo 244 DL
160K miles, Automatic

When the car was in the shop recently the mechanic wrote on the bill that the timing belt may need to be replaced. Is the engine in this car an interference engine? That is if the timing belt were to break could a piston potentially come in contact with valves?

Thanks

It is not an interference engine but the belt should be changed before it breaks and leaves you stranded on the roadside.
