Mike - I cleaned replaced my PCV system 30K miles ago, also replaced rear cam seals. The front were leaking a little but not bad so I decided to wait. Car runs like a top, good positive pressure. Yesterday is started blowing oil out, of what would appear to be the front seals, or crankseal...but I cannot see a leak when the car is at idle, so it must need to have a load to increase the oil pressure. Could the front cam seals just let go and blow that much oil( 4 qts in 5 miles)

Thoughts?

I am in the middle of this job and just found and interesting glitch

Instead of the push-on connector at the bottom of the flame trap/oil box, I had a connector hose with two Torx jubilee clamps (hose clamps)

Volvo dealer here in said that wasnt stock....except I bought this car at 20,000 miles in year 2000 and PCV has never been serviced. What are the chances someone replaced this? All the PCV are date coded 1998, so I think someone ran out of the right part in Sweden in late 1998.

Follow up question - VIDA diagram shows the rubber boss side of the slip on connector touches the engine block. Counter-intuitive to me.

Can someone confirm?

The screen shot from Alldata confirms that early cars did use a hose with two hose clamps rather than the slip attachment.

...and car dealers wonder why we work on our cars ourselves, rather than pay 115 an hour to people who don't know them better than us...

I think in my area the dealer labor rate is closer to $135/hr. My indy charges $95/hr.

I found the same when doing the PCV on my 99. I'd bought the kit from FCP and it had the same mystery fitting. Can't remember if I ended up using it or not - I know no shiny metal came out, but some shiny metal might have gone in.

I installed it with rubber side to the engine. Not positive that was right, but it just seemed to fit better that way considering the taper of the nipple on the block. It does take some reasonable force to seat the box all the way as far as it will go before installing the bolts.

A quick shot of silicone spray makes it a lot easier to push that fitting on. Of course, one could use oil too.

Closing loop on a couple of T5 PCV issues

Cn90 write up shows the rubber side of the lowest connector against the oil box. That's how I did it too.

The ETM on turbos sits under the manifold on turbos and this job is tough. I found the only way to get the banjo bolt (vacuum supply to manifold, as well as mechanical fitting for coolant) is to do so with the oil box connector off and then use the socket trick to install it after the manifold is on.

I've got a spare ETM gasket I can mail. Mine was so clean I didn't even remove it.
