I don't have a schematic, but a microswitch is either on or off. There must be a wire leading to the microswitch. The other side of the microswitch will have a wire or go to ground. Is there a way you place a jumper wire bypassing the microswitch? I think at this point we are assuming the problem is a microswitch. Is the passenger side seat powered? I would not exclude the seat controler defective.

Passenger seat works fine. This only happened to the driver's side after my son decided to get into the back of the car himself. The spring that attaches (Im not quite sure where) was completely off, and the electrical seat back recline completely stopped functioning. The bottom part of the seat does still go back and forth and up and down properly.

Can you post a picture of the spring? My '98 is under deconstruction and I have no problem pulling the seats out to take any pictures of what you need and trying to do. The spring may act as a counter balance and keeping the motor from working properly. Thinking sort of like a garage door opener that has the long springs as a helper when raising the door. This is just guessing. I can check more after work, if I know what spring you are referring to.

Just noticed in a post to eshowell that I had already pulled the seats during the July 4th removal. It is in the back of the car , so pictures are no problem after work if needed.

OK - can you post the picture of the schematic so we can try it out?

Its ok for users to post wiring pictures, but Volvo has asked the Moderators to not do this. Funny, but them's the rules and we do follow them.

I will post a picture as soon as I get to my computer, and of the spring and the wiring schematic. My husband works nights, so I'm relegated to a kindle during the daytime:)

OK, so camera was missing, but managed to get one so I apologize for the not so great quality here.

This is the back of the seat as it sits right now. Driver's side, bottom of the back of the seat, door side.

This is the spring that my son knocked off, or as I like to call it, the infamous spring

And here is a schematic of the wriing of the type of seats that my husband has in his vehicle.

If I've done anything wrong here, or against the terms please let me know. I try to abide by the rules, and I thought the pictures were smaller, so if this is too much or I've posted something I shouldn't have, I can just link the links to my photobucket and take them down with my apologies.

Hopefully these help! I do apologize for the delay as well... all the things were conspiring against me yesterday and this morning, but perseverence! Can't fix anything without it

So if you pull off the B connector from the control unit under the seat and apply 12 V to B1 and B2 you will drive the seat back angle motor.

I'm pretty sure these are 12 V motors but we should confirm that by reading the labels on them before applying voltage.

That spring looks like one of the foam seat pan to frame springs. With that spring coming out it may have affected the proper operation of the seat back microswitch. Find that microswitch 3/167 and open switch. Here is a picture of what a microswitch looks like. It should open and close with the manual movement of the seat back.

I also keep thinking that it may be the start of the seat controller going bad. With 5 V70s in the family I've changed 2 in the last year. The seat pan spring is throwing us off the scent.

Here is a picture of the under neath of the seat in another thread, towards end. You can see the plug to pull and it should be easy to apply 12 volts to the motor to at least get your car working again.
