2001 v70 2.4T Front Washers Hose Routing Is Critical

Post by packetfire »

Maybe this is just to obvious and simple for everyone else, but it stumped me for about half an hour!

I replaced my hail-dented hood with an identical hood from a junkyard having the same color code.

All was well, except that the windshield washers seemed to be plugged up.

Took it all apart, and the one-way valves seemed to be the problem, I could not blow through them even with canned air. But when disassembled, they looked clean and good.

After several minutes of fiddling I realized that I was the problem - the hose needed to run BEHIND the hood hinge, not in front of it. When the hood was closed, it was pinching off the hose. So, take care to run that hose behind the hinge when it is open, as there is room for the hose behind, not in front.

OK, call me stupid. This is my tale, and I tell it to save you the "DOH!" moment.
1982 240DL: Drove it 32 years and 1.5 million miles (sold, even still had mint leather!)
2001 v70 2.4T: The most expensive $1500 car I ever bought ("Volvo Turbo" - what an oxymoron!) (sold)
2004 v70: Far less fatally-flawed v70 - It served well (sold)
2010 v50: Smaller, slightly sportier wagon. Its got a spoiler, so I upgraded with sway bars!

2008 windshield washer hose underneath hood. There looks like there should be caps to complete the line to the spray nozzle. They are gone... please help.

"...there should be caps" - are you perhaps speaking of the round plastic guys with the two barbed connections that are plugged into the hoses before they reach the sprayers? Those are the one-way valves, and if the caps popped off them, you'll have to buy new one-way valves.

But I'd check at a local auto-parts store, as they may be generically available for any "high-pressure" washer system, regardless of car make/model. The hose is the same hose from 1960s MGs to 2015 Bentleys.
