2000 V40 Blown Head Gasket and Not Idling
My V40 recently overheated due to a bad radiator. I had the radiator replaced and it drove home fine. The check engine light went off again and was due to a misfire cylinder 2. I replaced the spark plugs and injectors. After I did that, it ran rougher and sputtered??. I have not had it scanned since because it is not drivable to a shop or Autozone. I have a scanner enroute that I purchased. I checked the coolant and oil to find milky oil and coolant with a slick on top (sign of a blown gasket?). Now it will not idle. The battery and the starter is fine. When i turn the key it starts rough and will shut off after a few seconds. I thought that an engine would still run with a blown head gasket? Is this a sign of bad timing or a ruined engine? Should i scrap it or try and fix it?

There are test kits available to check for combustion gases in the cooling system through the coolant expansion tank.
But it does sound like your symptoms are pointing to a blown head gasket. It is also possible that the overheating warped the head which would then have to be machined to true it up again. Not saying that's a definite, but just something to be aware of.
Unless you will be doing the work yourself, the cost to repair it will likely exceed the value of the car.
Perhaps you can find a engine at a junkyard as an alternative to repairing your own.

I am doing the repairs myself. I consulted a dealership mechanic as well as a friend and they told me its not worth it to have someone else do it between labor and parts. I got a block tester from the store to test for hydrocarbons but the engine wont run long enough for me to get out of the car and check. Iv also found 2 engines for sale if that is what needs to happen once i inspect the head.
