2007 S40 Alternator (Accesory) belt tensioner pulley removal

Post by Atillaesq »

I was doing the a/c clutch fix on my girlfriend's 2007 S40 and broke the Alternator belt tensioner pulley. I cannot figure out how to remove the one in the car to replace it. I have removed the retaining bolt and the tensioner is loose, however it will not come out. I have not removed the outside belt (a/c to crank) tensioner pulley as I do not know if this needs to be removed and I do not want to start taking off parts unless they need to come off. Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Atilla

If it matters, there are two different tensioner pulleys:
Her car has Volvo Part No.: 30650957-for engines prior to 4293285

here is a link to the part on eEuroparts.com:

I did a timing belt change earlier this year, and the tensioners didn't stand out as remarkably hard to remove. If you are working on the "back" accessory belt, I would remove the outer belt to improve access.
