Friends 2005 S60 AWD has a christmas tree of lights on the dash along with the ABS light and sometimes the "anti-skid" light coming on and the following messages:
Brake failure stop safely
ABS/Anti-skid service required
The car has just had all four rotors and pads replaced (not by me, honest) and seems to stop fine other than a random time when it feels like the ABS is cutting in even though the road is dry and not braking hard enough for ABS to cut in.
Any ideas what to check and where to start looking?
I'm planning on pulling each corner apart at the weekend to check the condition of the calipers etc. but with the christmas tree of lights and warnings there is something triggering an electrical sensor or ten somewhere.
Thanks for any pointers/advice.
2005 S60 "Brake failure stop faely"
has the problem started right after brake pads were replaced or before or a little after(not right away)
that might help to pin point if the problem was caused while the brakes were replaced or electrical

Hey, I'm also in Ottawa and I tackled this problem earlier this year. I personally asked Davor from Lt Motors (located on Shore Street off St. Laurent Blvd, opposite the OC transpo garage) to scan for error codes with a scan tool. I find him a trustworthy guy; and error codes made it easy to determine what the problem was.
If it's electrical (as it was for me) you'll probably need a new BCM. I upgraded my unit through XeModeX. I bought this module which I think is the same one for your s60. Good customer service and arrived the same week.
Replacing the module isn't too difficult, and doing the labour yourself will definitely save you some money. There are a couple of YouTube videos that can give you a general outline on how to do it. You may also need new ABS rings (cracked rings will still cause the warning light even if ABS is working), again, there's a YouTube video out there that can help you out if you're feeling hands on. Good luck.

I've ordered myself an OBD-II code reader that covers SRS and ABS codes too. So if you ever need help reading codes volvobro then gimme a shout.
It should be here Wed and so then I can have a look and see what all the screaming with all the lights is all about.

unfortunately, you will need VIDA/Dice. generic code readers, even with SRS and ABS scanning will not be enough.
i'm battling the same issue. it could be the brake pedal position sensor which is located on the vacuum booster under the hood.
also check this troubleshooting flow chart from XeMODeX,
http://xemodex.com/us/knowledgebase/bcm ... 2002-2004/
again, you will need VIDA/Dice to check comm to the BCM.

Once all the above are checked, there was a specific issue mostly with 2004 models due to poor connection at the main ECM modules near the power pump reservoir.

Code reader tells me the following:
Trouble Codes list (6)
0011
BCM-0011 Wheel sensor, left front ; Faulty signal
0012
BCM-0012 Wheel sensor, left front ; Mechanical error
0022
BCM-0022 Wheel sensor, right front ; Mechanical error
E000
BCM-E000 Communication between control units ; Comminicational problems
0065 Permanent fault
BCM-0065 Stop (brake) lamp switch ; Signal outside its permitted range
0021
BCM-0021 Wheel sensor, right front ; Faulty signal
Is this likely to be a BCM module issue? I haven't had time to physically look at the sensors etc. yet but does seem strange to have both fail.
This is a friend's car. I have a 2001 S60 (2.4L non turbo 2wd), hers is a 2005 AWD (2.5L turbo). Could I temporarily swap the BCM units and see if the errors follow or are they different units and/or are they "coded" per vehicle or would that be a recipe to blowing mine up?
Cheers, Duncan

You cannot swap from 2001 MY to 2005 because modules are completely different.
for 2005 MY you can only put from 2005 MY plus it depends from what car it is taken and programming might be needed to make BCM work right.

If you have questions about Volvo firmware ask me. I may know an answer

The 2004 V70 2.5T with some 130K miles just showed this message..."Brake Failure, Stop Safely"...
- I understand this is mostly anti-lock features.
- Car brake work fine on dry road. Have not tested hard braking on wet road yet.
Coming from 1998 V70, we just sent the ABS module to be resoldered, cost was $80 years ago...
Could someone give me an update on this?
- The root causes of this? Is it broken solder joints?
- Any soldering trick, has anyone tried this?
- What does Xemodex (In Toronto) do, is it mostly resoldering?
- Any company in the US? Is BBA-Reman still around?
