1993 940 Battery Removal

Post by jpetcoff »

I'm trying to remove the dead battery from my '93 Volvo 940 sedan. The battery is held in place in two places: by a permanent bracket attached to the inside of the front wheel well (in the engine compartment, of course) and to some kind of bracket in front, just behind the front headlight assembly. This bracket has a long thin metal column sticking out of it, going straight up vertically and ending in a small loop. Do I use this gizmo somehow to get the dead battery out??? I can't figure it out.

Just turn that long thin metal column around, anti clockwise, maybe 10 turns, and it will be loose. That column is holding a bracket, and the bracket is holding the battery.

Thank you for that reply. I actually tried that, thinking that is was similar to a tall screw. So I turned it left (counter clockwise) and the the loop at the top broke right off!! I guess it must be rusted tight down where it connects. Hopefully I can get under the car and lossen it underneath. Or I suppose I'll just have to pry the thing out. Oh well.

But thanks again for the reply, I appreciate it!
