Alarm draining battery?

Post by Smith »

I have a 2004 Volvo XC 70. A while back I got the code saying that my alarm system needed maintenance. I got a siren module online put it in and the code one away. The new siren doesn't make any kind of noise when it goes off but I see the hazard lights flash.

A couple times now since I replace the module I've come out and my battery has been drained. Other times I've come back and my alarm says it's been triggered quite often without the battery being drained. I put a jump box on it and it starts right up. I checked the volts on my battery and it's well above 12. If I were to bite the bullet and just buy a whole brand-new module should this fixed the problem?

New module will fix the problem. Used module makes no sense as they all have battery leaking electrolyte over PCB and destroying it.

Did you try to cut the casing and see how bad is the damage? It could be that you just need to clean the board, restore couple of traces and put a new battery pack, which typically cost around $12.

Is there any way of turning the sensitivity down to where my alarm won't be triggered so easily or is this due to the siren module being faulty? Who has the best price on a new module?

So I went and had my battery tested and it won't hold a charge. I check the volts and it was over 12 but when they tested it it was above 12 but like I said wouldn't hold a charge. Changed the battery this morning we'll see if that was it.

If you run down a lead-acid battery below 50% capacity they croak pretty quickly - especially if they are old. Old here means more than 3 years old, depending on where you live.

So my battery wasn't holding a charge even though it tested well above 12 V. I ended up replacing it last week and so far my alarm has not gone on once. Finicky cars these Volvos.
