WTB S70 trunk latch

Post by erikv11 »

This is for my 98 S70. The problem is not the lock actuator, that still works, it is the latch mechanism itself. The trunk will not latch closed, the latch is broken.

Very little info online; I don't know if the latches are different for different years like they are for the wagon, so I request a photo to compare with what I have.

Looks like you have a V70 '98. If that lock system will work, I have one off my "98.
Let me know.

Well I think the sedan and wagon latches are different. Thanks though. Busy week but I will try to look into it before you send it to the scrapper, see if I can pull off the broken one and compare it to the V70 latch, there are tons of pictures of those available.

H Erik,

Did you figure this out yet? If ot, did you look up the parts layouts on one of the on-line suppliers?

I posted a link to one and maybe if you can identify which part you are looking for it may make our task easier to help.

What I need is the latch mechanism, it is part #9152704 in that diagram. What I don't need is the more common failure item, the lock actuator #25.

That's a useful diagram and web page, thank you. It confirms that the mechanism is the same for all S70s, and that a wagon latch will not work.

I still haven't pulled mine, should have time on the weekend, but based on the info there mine should look like the 9152704 shown there:

Looks like there are some on eBay, I could go that route. For now I am driving around with a bungee hooked up in the trunk and putting up with the little light on the dash ...

Once I got the latch out of the car today and opened it up, it was obvious that the little return spring had failed. I fixed it for a couple bucks and a trip to the hardware store.

Close thread, thanks all for the help.
