2000 V70R - AWD Volvo hose clamp quality?

Post by scot850 »

So I am trying to replace the rusty old hose clamps on my fuel tank vent pipe and according to Vida, the part # is 988023. So I ordered the clamps from Volvo and this is what I got compared to the original:
Hose clamp (1)
Hose clamp (1)
Hose clamp (2)
Hose clamp (2)
So maybe it is just me, but, I fail to see other than the they are hose clamps, how they can be considered the same. Old part is 12mm wide and has a size range of 15-24mm, and the new one has a width of 8-9mm and a size range of 12-20mm. Added to the fact the original has a good beveled edge to prevent it cutting in the pipe rubber and the new one is virtually flat. I've raised the issue of part quality going down, but this is poor at best and at $6 CDN each they are going back.

I'd rather use the originals and leave in place as they are 2 x thicker metal.

I think the originals my be made by ABA in Sweden, so I am trying to find if they have a NA distributor.

I also tried to find the pop-rivets that hole the plastic clips onto the rear sub-frame for the hard brake line, and Volvo supplies a metal screw that is about 3mm wide for a hole that is 5mm wide! Screws were $5 CDN each and went back. I will have to find 3/8" x 1" long aluminum rivets to do the job properly, but they are hard to find locally.

Ipd sells ABA clamps, which I've always been happy with. Looked there?

FCP Euro sells some very nice hose clamps as well. Rather than a rivet, tap the hole for an M6x1 and use a screw. If you do use a rivet, a 3/16" will do. 3/8" is HUGE!

Thanks for the input. I made several errors it would appear.

Clamp size was wrong, picked up the one from the wrong end. IPD sells the one I want for that end the ABA 15-24mm version, but the reason I don't buy from them is their shipping costs. $10 of clamps requires $32 of shipping!! They don't carry the size I really wanted which is 13-20mm x 12mm wide.

FCP does not carry this one either, and the aftermarket ones are only 9mm wide.

Rivet dimension is correct at 3/16" (5mm) NOT 3/8th as I stated. Those I know I can get locally.

I will check out some more local suppliers today for the hose clamps I need. Looked on Amazon.ca. They have what I want but they will arrive around end of October or early November! What sort of business model is that?

Thanks for the help though guys!
