2000 AWD S70 Center Exhaust Clamp??
2000 AWD S70 Center Exhaust Clamp??
Hello Everyone, I was just curious about how hard it would be to replace the center exhaust clamp on an AWD S70? The catalytic convert and exhaust parts themselves seem fine but one half of the clamp is coming undone. Is it just dry fitted onto the exhaust pipe or is it welded to the pipe itself. The car seems to be making a purring noise which sounds close to a compressor firing rapidly and I'm curious if this clamp could be the cause of it?

The hard part is getting the old one off, the new one goes on with ease. I went after one with a Sawzall but the space was very limited and it was tough. The part number is not for the pair, it is for each individual half of the clamp. Both sides are identical so you need to order two of them.

Looks like one side has a nice gap. You might be able to get in there with a dremel and cut the bolt. Then try to pry it loose with whatever tool you can find that seems fit.
Make sure to clean the mating surfaces with some sandpaper and apply a nice layer of exhaust sealer goop before you put the new one on.
Failure of this clamp is very common btw.

Soon or later you need to visit local muffler shop, they will remove the rusted section, install new "sleeve" and weld it for you.

Thanks for the responses, you guys are great.
I have ordered the clamp and will try to get the car back on the lift this weekend to take a look. I'm at college and while we have a decently stocked student auto shop, I'm not sure what tools I can get my hands on. I'd rather not sleeve weld it in case something else goes so that it will be easier to replace later.
