When it comes to the whole clamp vs weld thing, it seems that billofdurham has another idea - https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... =2&t=24099 . I'm on the brink of needing a new system for my 855, and wouldn't dream of having someone weld it together...

That's a better description of what I have - it looks like some sort of sealer was stuffed up into the joint between the two.Sommerfeldt wrote:When it comes to the whole clamp vs weld thing, it seems that billofdurham has another idea - https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... =2&t=24099 . The sealant is a good idea, as long as it's used correctly. Though the quick fix stuff and patching isn't worth your time or money. A good clamp on a pipe in good condition is the way to go, in my opinion. I've also been looking at iPd's videos of installing their system, and I haven't seen anyone weld a single thing...

$45 for a weld is a no-brainer, great solution on a > 20 year old exhuast system. IMHO!
Installing a new exhaust system is an entirely different matter, you are talking apples and oranges now. Or blueberries and watermelons.

I'm not sure if this is an OEM cat, because its inlet neck is slightly flared. The sealant was used to fill the gap between the flare and the pipe. And I don't Think the system is original -
