Thanks for the offer Al. I'll probably go with the evil I know since skipping the extra weight of the seat motors will help increase fuel mileage. :D

Hi again ES,

All seriousness aside, you are right, when i drive with the motors in i get about 28 miles per gallon but when i take the motors out i get about 28.001 miles per gallon. So after i buy 1000 gallons of gas i've saved about 2.50 or so dollars, and that's after about 200 trips to the gas station for me, which takes me over about 10 years. So yeah, over about 10 years or so i save two dollars and fifty cents.
Thanks for pointing that out :-)

Actually i never checked the miles per gallon yet. Just guessing right now, but would be interesting to find out. Wonder what these 5 cyl non turbo's do ?
I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.
1998 v70, non turbo, FWD, base model, on the road from April 2nd, 2015 to July 26, 2023.

If it is an automatic and reasonably maintained with properly inflated tires and not all wheel drive, you should expect to see about 25 mpg in mixed driving unless you're a real leadfoot. I approximate mileage at the pump and figure I can go about 400+ miles with 16 gallons consumed and still have enough gas to get me to a gas station, and then some, before I run out. I don't recommend running down the tank that low since the fuel pump is cooled by the gas in the tank. Never below a quarter tank is probably a good rule of thumb to prolong fuel pump life.

Steady highway cruising with judicious use of cruise control and at least 89 octane should get you several mpg better than that, perhaps as high as 29-30, or even better depending on your implementation of hypermiling techniques.

All of that is influenced, of course, by octane, moon phase, tide, wind, slope, traffic, load, whether the car has been freshly washed and waxed, underbody cladding to reduce turbulence and drag, etc.

You'll do even a mpg or two better with a standard trans.

Forgive me for bringing up seat questions again, but I think all the reading on this topic has got me more confused than when I started.

My goal - replace the driver side seat back. I do not want to undo skins' etc. Prefer to not do a full remove and replace since I cannot find a full seat in good enough condition in my color code (3960)

Am I able to take a matching seat back from any '98, '99, '00 S/V 70 from EITHER driver or passenger seat to unbolt, and put in my driver side?

I suppose it has to be from a power seat since mine is power positioned. will a C70 work?

I am pretty sure the '99 will not work for the '98 as far as a swap without removing the skin and doing it that way. Something to do with the SAS. The "shotgun" is directly hooked to the back part of the seat on the '98 and different on the '99.
If you need pictures. I have one torn down at the house and it might explain better.
Pulling the skin is not a real big deal, after you have done one or two. The zip tie method works for some, but I have used the hog nose, and once you get the hang of it, not to bad.

You need a seat from a 99 or 00 car, the earlier seats (up to and including 98) could be used but you need to fool the cars SRS system. I wouldn't bother with C70 seats as they have a tilt forward option for access in to the rear of the seat, and the seatbelt attachment to the seat is different to what you need.

The 99- seats used an electrically initiated SIPS air bag whereas the earlier seats were mechanically initiated. In addition to this difference the seat belt buckle portion with the red press to unfasten seat belt is a micro switch on -98 but the 99- cars employed an inductive proximity sensor, the two are not electrically compatible. Finally where the seatbelt attaches to the base of the seat near the "B" pillar -98 cars used a bolt passing through a loop in the end of the seatbelt, 99- cars used a quick release fitting stiched in to the end of the seatbelt - Mike

Stumbled onto this thread and adding to knowledge base

C70 seat backs and seat bottom are a different foam shape, so if you put in C70 leather into a S/V 70 you need to move both foam an seat

The C70 does not get electrically fired SIPS IN 1999, it gets it in ???
