2000 V70R Turns Sluggish After Idling

Post by Bluevanacd2005 »

Recently I have noticed my R will become sluggish after idling for a decent amount of time (15 minutes to 1/2 hour). I can reliably reproduce this. After idling, if I force it to take off, eventually it will - once the engine RPM gets up above ~3000. Once this happens, my power returns and I get a slight discharge of grey smoke. Turning the engine off and back on after idling makes no difference to the issue. It runs great other wise... almost 200K miles on the car.

Here's what I am thinking: The turbo seals are failing, and filling my intake piping with oil when I idle? The turbo is original as far as I know.

I tried to check the shaft play in the turbo - I didn't notice any end play, and didn't think the side-to-side play was excessive. But I couldn't get a great view of it while I was pushing it with my fingers, the space it a little tight, so I could be wrong.

I'm just looking to get your opinion on the issue to make usre their isn't a simpler issue that can cause this.

Thanks,

Spenser

Assuming the turbo is failing, it seems like ARD is really the only place to buy the right one that would be backed with decent quality?

TD04HL 19T if I remember correctly. I'd rather spend $1000 and know I'll have a good turbo for the rest of the life of the car, than spend $300 and have it fail in a few months.
