Installed a tune on my 2002 Volvo v70 xc today... And it feels essentially the same? Ive driven another, 2004 V70 XC and it feels peppier then mine, and it was stock. After consulting the almighty internet, I began to check all the charge piping connections, starting at throttle body:
Throttle body to intercooler looked good
Intercooler to charge pipe looked good
Charge pipe to turbo discharge looked good
To me, that's all the pressure piping. Lo and behold, just beyond there, a nightmare.
I've attached pictures of the air intake hose. It wasn't attached. Could this be why the car feels sluggish? Should I go back and check downstream of turbo again?
Also... Where is the famous TCV everyone keeps talking about? Is the small box I've shown in pictures it?

I’d say she’s done for. Not even worth keeping that pipe for a backup
Yep, that’s the TCV alright.
Snabb makes an inexpensive replacement for that turbo inlet pipe. I think they are around $140-150. Stock is probably a little less than that.

Yeah, I'm trying to source a new one. Would this be why I'm having performance issues? It feels like there's barely any boost.
I thought the TCV lives on the turbo? Looks like it has maybe been relocated on this car?

Actually, the CBV (Compressor Bypass Valve) lives on the turbo. The TCV is your Turbo Control Valve, aka, BCS or Boost Control Solenoid. Without it, you will only make as much boost psi as your wastegate is set to. It normally is clipped to the side of the airbox, underneath the pipe running from the airbox to the turbo. TCV has been talked about a bit lately it seems. Interval to replace TCV is something like 30-40k.
CBV you shouldn't have to worry about unless your diaphragm has torn, which you would know about if it had occurred. Replacing the CBV is not fun, very tedious (bordering on painful) work the first time you do one. Tell you what, I'd do 8hr shifts 5 days a week doing intake manifold banjo bolts vs doing CBV's
Do you have a manual boost gauge? If not, I'd highly recommend putting one in. 20 minutes roughly to install and lots of good info you can glean from it. Plus if you have a tune, you can see if you are achieving what the tuner has said you should be making. Who is your tune by/from?
Having that busted up inlet pipe is definitely not helping you make power. The parameters being monitored are likely all way off.
Here's the Snabb pipe. Probably available cheaper elsewhere, maybe ViVA, Re-Volv or Eurosport Tuning perhaps.
Here's the stocker. You could probably get just the pipe sans PTC cheaper.

Manual boost gauge is ordered, should be here next week. In the mean time, I'll source a stock intake pipe. Tune is from Hilton tuning.

Stage zero is complete, first thing I did when I got the car! Did not notice that the intake hose on the turbo had disintegrated.

That is also part of stage 0 if you ask me. The base for tuning should always be good, before adding more power.
The rip in the intake hose should cause your car to run lean (extra unmetered air). I can recommend upgrading the intake hose with a uprated silicone one. It makes quite a difference!
Also do a readout with VIDA/DICE, it might show more issues which you are not aware of.

Hose is replaced, she is much happier now! Was a bit of a pain getting new one on there... Hidden right in the back of engine.

So, installed boost gauge as per Pete's suggestion... I'm suspecting CBV is toast. I replaced all the vac lines, she makes a solid -20inHg of vac. On acceleration, hits 4 or 5 psi and holds there, every gear. Not the best.
