The following is an email I received from GH (sorry GH, I don't know the answer). If anyone has any ideas, please help GH:
I have a 1992 volvo. The radio light that says c.d. is blinking on and off when the car is not on. No one seems to know what to do. Do you have any idea what is wrong? and how to fix it. the car never had a c.d. player. I have the code and have already reset it twice.

this is in reference to the c.d. light that keeps blinking. The radio in the radio in front. Is there more than one radio? I am really uneducated about this subject

Volvo has produced several models of radio over the years and there are differences in the operation of them. The model number should be on the front panel or, failing that, it will be on the body of the radio head unit.

Again Sorry. The model is CR814. The extra markings were a computer user error!

This is also the light for the radio anti-theft device.
This is an extract from the Owner's Manual for a '93 940 which has that radio fitted:

Hope this answers your question. The radio features anti-theft circuitry. While the unit is powered but the ignition is OFF (key removed), the "CD" indicator lamp (13) flashes to indicate the anti-theft system. If the set is removed from the vehicle or if the battery power is disconnected, a special code must be entered to enable operation of the set.

Thank you. i am amazed. I read through the 1992 manuel three times. I talked to three Volvo dealers iin the area. I spoke to the Volvo "consumer liine". No one knew the answer. I have driven this car since 1992. I had completely forgotten that the car radio was stolen the first year that I had it and that it had been replaced. What is very strange in that I never noticed the light before. Of course I almost never drive at night and might not have noticed the light blinking during the day. Now the car is parked in a dark garage and that is when I noticed it. You are just great and so is the site. Thank you again!
